FAQ Visa Myanmar (Burma) Land Visit
    This is a compiled list of questions (and their answers) that travellers frequently ask about visiting the Union of Myanmar and Myanmar visa application procedures. If you don't find the answer to your questions here, send email to the officials.
1-Q    I am trying to arrange visas for my friends from the United States that will not have time to receive visas at one of the Myanmar embassies. Would it be possible for you to help me with this request. Blake ­ Singapore Oct, 2003
Ans:    Yes. Requests for tourist visa-on-arrival from all countries are accepted.
 2-Q    What do I need to give you?
Ans:     You need to fill in Visa Application form (preferable the form at www.myanmarvisa.com and make sure you fill Flight No. and Hotel you are staying (or the address) correctly among other things
 3-Q    Do we need to send our actual passports to you?
Ans:    No. You do not need to send your passports at all. Just send us the application form by email or fax (+95 1 204020 or 245230).
 4-Q   Is there any fees for this service?
Ans:    Yes. Official visa fees is 20 United States Dollars. The processing fees is 15 US$ + 5$ documentation charges and 5$ overheads. If you apply Visa on arrival less than 5 working days ahead we will charge 20$ extra. We start counting from the time we receive your form submission or application email. (There can be a time difference between sending email from your side and receiving on our side. According to our experience, it took 4 days to received 1 particular email therefore it is advisable that you should make sure we receive your message.)
5-Q   How can we pay?
Ans:    You can pay “cash on arrival”.
Our staff will be at the Yangon Airport entrance to meet you and collect the fees. He or She will take care of all your entry procedure and you don’t have to wait in long queue.
6-Q   After I fill up the form and submit on the web site or send the form via email, how long will it take to get approved.?
Ans:    Normally it takes 5 working days or 1 week. If we have shorter lead time then we will charge a premium.
7-Q   Can you send us the Visa form?
Ans:    Yes we can but if we send by normal mail it will take about at least 2 weeks to Europe and America.
8-Q   When approved, what will we receive?
Ans:    Upon approval, we email or fax the official approval letter for you to show your airline and immigration officer at the Yangon airport. We also inform your airline after we verify with your supplied flight, passenger name and PNR code and hotel you are staying. Therefore it is very important to supply us with correct information.
9-Q   Our vessel will be working in Myanmar sometime in middle of November, I have quite a few crew whom needs to apply the Myanmar Business visa. I came across this website and found out that I could actually send in the photos and details directly to get the pre-approval. Can we apply visa on arrival?
Ans:   We only have procedures to process Tourist Visa at Yangon Airport. For any other, we have to handle case by case basis.
10-Q   We heard that all Tourists have to pay 200 USD to exchange into FEC (foreign exchange certificates) Is it true?
Ans:   No. You don’t have to change 200 US$ into FEC anymore.
11-Q   We are looking to travel to Myanmar for a few days from Changmai next Sunday and was about to get a visa. Can we apply visa-on-arrival?
Ans:   Yes you can. But you have to apply it 2 weeks ahead if you are entering Myanmar other than Yangon Airport.
12-Q   How can I learn the status of the visa for which I have applied?

With regards to visas for cruise ship passengers, can the cruise ship company obtain the visas for all passengers when the ship arrives? What are the possible means?

Ans:

 

The best way is to obtain pre-arranged visa-on-arrival with the ground operator. Normally, all travel agents are entitled to apply for visa-on-arrival, which usually takes about 3 working days.

Are Myanmar embassies and consulates closed during the Christmas and New Year holidays? How can I obtain a visa during office holidays?

Ans:

 

Myanmar embassies and consulate offices are closed during these holidays and also on Myanmar public holidays. You can obtain a e-visa via the internet during this holidays. Please find more information under Q-5.

Can I get a tourist visa at the Yangon Airport on arrival in Myanmar? How much does it cost?

Ans:

 

Yes, Myanmar tourist visa can be obtained upon arrival at Yangon Airport with a visa pre-approval letter, in case you have no sufficient time to get visa stamp through the Myanmar embassy or consulate general prior to your departure. The fee is US$20.00.

I heard that tourists could get a visa-on-arrival at the Yangon Airport. What documentation do I have to prepare? What is a pre-approval letter?

Ans:

 

To obtain visa-on-arrival you need to have a pre-approval letter from the Ministry of Hotels & Tourism (MHT), and submit a copy of your passport and information on flight schedule and address in Myanmar (hotel, guesthouse, residence, etc. where you will be staying). The fee for visa-on-arrival is US$20.00. The pre-approval letter is issued by the MHT which can be obtained through your travel agent or directly from MHT via mail correspondence with address 77/91 Sule Pagoda Road, Yangon or email at:mtt.mht@mptmail.net.mm.

In my country there is no Myanmar embassy or consulate office and, therefore, I need to send my passport and supporting documents to the next nearest country which may take up to two weeks. Since I will be in Bangkok for 2 days, can I be able to get my visa there? Do I have other options to get my visa the fastest?

Ans:

 

Yes, visa stamp can also be obtained in Bangkok (BKK) if you travel to Myanmar via Thailand directly at the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok. Time required for visa processing is 1-2 working days. Alternatively, you can also apply for an e-Visa via the Internet at www.visa.gov.mm. This web-based entry visa application service allows tourist travelers to apply for entry visas online. The fee for e-Visa is US$30.00 (US$20.00 + US$10.00 processing charge) per application and can be settled online per credit card. You can ask your travel agent in Myanmar to apply for a visa-on-arrival on your behalf.

Ans:

What are the requirements to get a tourist visa and how can we get it? Can we get a single or multiple entry tourist visas and how much does it cost? How long can we stay in Myanmar as a tourist?

Ans:

 

A tourist visa is a single-entry visa for tourist travelers for a maximum of 28 days stay within the country. There are no multiple-entry visas available for tourists. Please refer to answers to 3-Q and 5-Q for ways to obtain the visa. The fee for tourist visas in embassies or consulate office various upon the country to which they are located. e-Visa and on-arrival visa cost US$30.00 and US$20.00, respectively.

The following are the requirements for obtaining a tourist visa:

1.National Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months)

Arrival Report Form*

3.Two Application Forms for tourist visa*

4.Three passport photos, must be attached to forms 2 and 3

5.Tourist visa fee, which amount depend upon country and can be paid in cash

If visa application is sent by mail, a self-addressed return envelope with stamps or postage for registered letter should be included.

* Forms can be obtained at the Myanmar embassy or consulate office

Is there a minimum amount of money to be spent in the country when visiting Myanmar?

Ans:

 

No, there are no restrictions as to how much you need to spend in the country.

I am planning to visit Myanmar later this month and would like to stay up to 30 days there. Is it possible for me to stay for 30 days without renewal of visa? Would there be a fine or any serious charges if I over stay by a couple of days?

Ans:

 

The maximum stay on a single entry tourist visa is 28 days. For a longer stay you would need to renew your tourist visa outside of the country.

Alternatively, you can pay a daily fine of US$ 3.00 at the Immigration counter of the airport upon departure for each day that you stayed over.

How can I apply for a business visa for Myanmar?

Ans:

 

You can apply for a business visa at any embassy or consulate office, however, you would need a letter of assignment from a company within Myanmar for which you are working.
