The 15 most FAQ about live-aboard diving cruises with us
Welcome to S.E.A. Charters Frequently Asked Questions section on liveaboard Diving.

We have done our best to compile a list of mostly general questions that our guests ask about
Burma liveaboard diving cuises or Thailand.
Please read on and if your questions are still unresolved then do not hesitate to contact us by E-mail. info@scuba-quest.de
Q1. --Airport transfers?

A1. Can be arranged in advance, but there is generally a fee involved. If your flight arrival means that you arrive at the airport too late to meet at the office then we will collect you en route without additional charge. Before the cruise we will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to our Kamala Beach main office.

On the day the boat returns we bring you to the airport ( please do not forget the 24 hour after diving rule) OR to your hotel, should you decide to spend a few more days in Phuket or Ranong.

Our office staff will be happy to arrange any additional transfers for you, but these are not free of charge.

Q2.--What   you will  need on board ?
A2.Usualy bring:PASSPORT, (Liveaboard diving in burma only), CERTIFICATION CARD, SPECIAL MEDICATION YOU NEED, Beach towels, suntan lotion, all your toiletries, hat or something similar, sunglasses, books, your favorite games and light clothes, shorts, t-shirts, one set of warmer clothes for the evenings and batteries if they are unusual size, all packed in a soft bag. Any excess luggage can be stored at our office or at your hotel during the trip. Other than camera cases, no hard cases are permitted on board

Q3. --Diving Equipment?

A3. If you bring your own gear make sure you carry a save-a - dive kit or spare parts for your  particular dive gear, operaters carry spares but  be sure.

For those who prefer to travel light, most operators have a complete range of quality rental equipment, including dive lights, wet suits, dive computers and underwater camera equipment.

Q4. --Insurance?
A4.It is strongly recommend that you obtain suitable holiday insurance. Be sure to get a cancellation insurance as well!

Q5. --Non-diving activities?
A5. While diving is the priority, there are lots of other possibilities. When the location is suitable, there is swimming, snorkelling and island visits and on board MV Faah Yai kayaking. There is usually a selection of books and games on board, but feel free to bring your own.

Q6. --Where is the world's best diving?
A6. --Wherever God put it. In other words, not necessarily convenient to airports or shore based diving facilities. In the Pacific and Red Sea this can mean hundreds of miles away.

Q7. --Is that why people trade the space and comfort of a hotel to go on a liveaboard?
A7. --Absolutely. For thirty years now, knowledgeable divers have traded shopping, tennis and sitting around a hotel to get unlimited diving on superior, undamaged reefs. Live-aboards are the only way to reach those sites. Another secret at the heart of live-aboard diving is value, as signified by the cost per dive.  Simply put, it means that when you purchase a dive vacation, the total cost (airfare, hotel, meals, transfers, taxes, etc.)  can reach $2500 to $5000 per person. Using a $2500 total as an example, consider this: If you do ten dives that week each dive will cost you $250. If instead you go on a live-aboard and do 25 dives that week, your cost per dive is only $100! That is value...

Q8. --What do you mean by "unlimited diving"?
A8. --Unlimited diving means that you can go diving any time the cruise is not in transit to a new place and you are within the safety limits of your dive profile. We generally plan 4 dives around this but if you wish extra dives please discuss it with the Cruise Director. As long as it is within safety limits and does not create aggravation for other guests then it can be arranged.

Q9. --Will I be comfortable living on a live-aboard for a week or more?
A9. --Modern, well-managed live-aboards often offer comfort, cleanliness and convenience equal to that of a dive resort. The Boats often come with hot showers, double bed cabins, air-con, TV & video, ice, fridges, & more. There are, of course, boats which don't have everything listed, but the comfort standard rises each year.

Q10. --How many divers are on a typical live-aboard dive boat
A10. --There is no such thing as a typical live-aboard. Some are built for four passengers, or six; the larger vessels host up to eighteen, some take up to 30! Each derives its uniqueness from its marine life, its comforts and the nature of its crew. The best ones offer unforgettable adventures.

Q11. --Is there a problem with seasickness?
A11. --That depends on the location. Places such as Similan Islans or the Mergui Archipelago offer lots of shelter in any weather. More important, We try to schedule all clients on cruises during what have historically, been the calm-weather months. Remember, the dedicated boat crews don't want to endure rough water, either. They know their area, and arrange their itineraries for maximum comfort.

Q12. --What do you do when you aren't diving?
A12. --You'd be surprised how much of the day is consumed by diving when you are at world-class sites. In addition, modern live-aboards offer TV-VCR's, audio systems for music, sun-deck or salon for reading and interesting divers with whom to share your diving adventures. The explosive growth of live-aboard diving is a testament to its clear superiority as seen by divers in the know.

Q13. --What does everyone do in the evenings?
A13. --Believe it or not, an active day of diving, sun and salt air uses a lot of energy - as a result many divers sleep well after several dives - no kidding! Other wise grab a few beers, read a book , discuss the days diving, maybe watch the trip video, play chess, backgammon, cards, or chill out on the top deck listening to music.

Q14. --What sort of people go on a liveaboard?
A14. --Well, if you dive with us then most probably people with the same attitude and requirements as yourself, and it may surprise just who these people are. We have had individuals doing the Open Water course to Dive owners with 1000's of dives, from 16 years old to a 73 year young lady from Denmark. Backpackers to CEO's, students to heads of multinationals. We have had guests from South America, South Africa, USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, most of Europe & Scandanavia, Japan, most of SE Asia, and so it continues!

Q15. --If that is true, a lot of divers should be switching from hotels to live-aboards. Are they?

A15. --Live-aboard diving has a powerful growth rate, almost all of which is comprised of divers abandoning shore resorts. Over the years, more than 95% of those who try a quality live-aboard never take another hotel-based dive vacation.
